GBKH Files New Case against Lance Armstrong

On October 7th, GBKH partners Jim George, Mark Kincaid, and Russ Horton filed a legal action against cyclist Lance Armstrong, demanding more than $1 million in damages for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and The IMA Financial Group. In 1999, the two firms covered a significant portion of a $2 million bonus that the owner of Armstrong’s team paid the athlete in connection with his first Tour de France win. Armstrong admitted in 2013 to having used performance-enhancing drugs in that race and those that followed, and the International Cycling Union has since stripped him of all seven of his Tour de France titles. By violating race rules and covering up his drug use, Armstrong defrauded Fireman’s Fund and IMA Financial and forced them to pay him hundreds of thousands of dollars they did not owe. GBKH settled a similar case on behalf of the Acceptance Insurance Company in November 2013. The new lawsuit has been covered by the Austin American-Statesman. For more information, see Plaintiff’s Original Petition, Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and The IMA Financial Group, Inc. v. Lance Armstrong, Case No. D-1-GN-14-004104, 201st District Court, Travis County, Texas.
