GBKH Partner to Argue Case before Supreme Court of the United States

On March 23, 2015, GBKH Partner Jim George will argue a First Amendment case before the Supreme Court of the United States on behalf of the Texas Chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. At issue is whether the State of Texas may regulate the content of certain speech, which in this case involves the denial of an application for an automobile license plate bearing the Confederate battle flag. Groups as diverse as the American Civil Liberties Union, the Cato Institute, and the Americans United for Separation of Church and State have filed briefs supporting the position maintained by GBKH’s client, and the case has been covered by The Washington Post,USA Today, NBC News, and other media outlets. This is Jim’s third argument before the U.S. Supreme Court, where he clerked for Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall from 1970 to 1971.
