Firm Litigator Nan Hazel Retires

Nanneska Hazel, who joined the firm as an associate in 1998 and became of counsel with George Brothers Kincaid & Horton LLP in 2004, retired effective November 30, 2018.

Ms. Hazel successfully litigated cases ranging from large class actions involving securities fraud and professional negligence, to contract disputes between individuals and companies. She also handled appeals and represented clients before state grievance panels.

“Nan also carried her legal expertise into her community,” said firm co-founder Doug Brothers. “She has represented a small Austin university and a church-affiliated nonprofit, while also giving her time to Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas. She is a real doer.”

Ms. Hazel began her career as an English professor and taught at several colleges in Massachusetts and Texas and at Bergstrom Air Force Base before deciding to pursue law. She obtained her law degree at the University of Texas School of Law in 1990.

“Nan brought a terrific set of skills and real-world knowledge to our firm, and she will really be missed,” said Mr. Brothers. “Nan tells us she plans to spend her retirement watching her grandchildren play soccer and run track, volunteering at St. David’s Episcopal Church and singing in its choir, traveling, and working in her garden. We wish her well in these adventures.”
